The past year has been another fun and eventful year at GenomeDK. With our latest investments in CPU and GPU capacity, GenomeDK is now more powerful than ever.
We now support 1100+ users from all over Denmark (and indeed, other countries too), and as you can read below, we’re soon to welcome even more researchers in the future.
The Faculty of Technical Sciences joins GenomeDK collaboration¶
We’re very happy to welcome the Faculty of Technical Sciences (TECH) as the newest partner in the GenomeDK collaboration!
From 2026, TECH researchers can use GenomeDK on the same conditions as researchers from NAT, HEALTH and the Central Denmark Region.
TECH will also have a direct role in the future development of GenomeDK, with Mogens Sandø Lund from QGG representing the faculty in both the Strategic Steering Committee and Leader Forum.
The agreement fits very well with AU’s new HPC strategy, which calls for stronger collaboration across faculties, easier access to HPC resources and better use of shared infrastructure. For us, this is a very concrete step in that direction – and we look forward to supporting even more engineering, simulation, AI and data-intensive research at AU.
New compute resources available¶
We’ve expanded the GenomeDK compute infrastructure with additional compute, both CPU and GPU. This means that GenomeDK is now a 21000+ core cluster!
The new CPU nodes have been integrated into the existing queues, so no changes are required to your workflows.
Since we now have multiple types of GPUs available, and more users are making use of the GPUs, we have updated our documentation for working with GPUs. The pricing page has also been updated accordingly.
If your workload uses MPI or you’re curious about how MPI can be used on GenomeDK, we’ve also updated our MPI documentation.
New workshop series announced¶
The next GenomeDK workshop series was announced just before the summer break .
The workshops are free to attend and open to everyone, whether you are new to GenomeDK or an experienced user looking to sharpen your skills. The series covers practical topics relevant to research computing and provide an opportunity to learn from GenomeDK staff and fellow users.
Most seats are already taken, so hurry up if you’d like to attend!
Changes to two-factor authentication¶
To improve account security, we have tightened two-factor authentication (2FA) requirements for the open zone.
Previously, users could continue logging in without 2FA after an initial authentication (with re-authentication with 2FA required after 14 days). Going forward, all users will be required to complete a 2FA login at least once every week. This provides additional protection while keeping day-to-day access convenient.
There are no changes to the closed zones or the GenomeDK Desktop. These services will continue to require two-factor authentication for every login, as they do today.
Ensure correct project ownership¶
Many GenomeDK projects have existed for years, and in some cases the registered project owner is no longer actively involved.
As a project owner, you are responsible for ensuring that your projects are transferred to another, active GenomeDK user, should it be necessary.
This is especially important since projects without an active project owner are subject to deletion after 6 months!
If ownership needs to be transferred, contact the GenomeDK support team.
Updated terms of service¶
The GenomeDK terms of service have been updated.
The changes primarily clarify user responsibilities. All users are encouraged to review the updated terms, that took effect on August 1st.
Continued use of GenomeDK constitutes acceptance of the updated terms of service.
